Hello Guys!
I just want to get one thing straigthened out. Isn't vertical hinging easier to perform when using right arm rather than the pivot? |
Vertical Hinge Action -- A Deliberate Manipulation
Quote:
See you've been in the wings since last October. Welcome aboard, and thanks for this first post! To your question: Vertical Hinge Action -- a clockwise motion of the Hands through Impact -- is the reverse of what normally happens in the Golf Stroke. Therefore, it is the natural byproduct of neither Swinging (Passive Right Arm) nor Hitting (Active Right Arm). In fact, it is always a deliberate mechanical manipulation. The good news is that, once the Hinge Actions are learned and reduced to a Feel, one is as easy as the other to apply, no matter what drives the Stroke (Pivot generated Centrifugal Force or Right Arm driven Muscular Thrust). That said, Angled Hinge Action -- the natural motion produced by Right Arm Thrust -- on the more upright Planes comes close to being Vertical Hinge Action. Jim Furyk's action is a good example. One segment of the soon-to-be-released Blake/Trolio Video Series explicitly provides both a verbal and visual answer to your question. In it, V.J. and I describe and demonstrate the use of all three Hinge Actions using either Pivot or Right Arm Drive. I may get Bagger -- oops, he's out of the country now -- to put up a little snippet from that Series that bears exactly on this point. Stay tuned. :) |
Thank you very much for your answer Yoda :)
I practiced it a bit today and so far so good. |
Blake/Trolio Video Clip -- Hinge Actions / Swinging and Hitting
Okay, Stefan, here is the promised video answer to your question. It is an extract from the soon-to-come Series that V.J. Trolio and I did way back in October 2005 (we've both been busy in other areas!). In addition to being a valued collaborator in this effort, V.J. is an LBG Pro Contributor, 2007 Mississippi Open Champion and author of the recently released book, The Final Missing Piece of Ben Hogan's Secret Puzzle. http://www.thefinalmissingpiece.com/
For those without some super-duper Internet connection -- and Lord pity the dial-ups -- I strongly recommend saving the file to your computer prior to viewing. This will eliminate the constant buffering problem (at least the one I personally experience with the longer videos). Also, it will permit rewind capability (and facilitate stop-action viewing). To do this, 'right click' your mouse and then 'save target as'. Be sure to note the file name and directory you're saving to so you won't have to search around to find it. The only downside of this procedure is that it takes about 20 minutes to save, so be patient. The advantages far outweigh this required time. If anybody knows a better way or would like to comment in general on the 'save' feature, please do. And now . . . Enjoy! http://www.lynnblakegolf.com/gallery.../LBVJHinge.wmv |

Thanks, hg . . .
. . . for this boost from the LBG West Coast Support Team!
These photos are not quite at the same angle, but they are close enough to see the basics: 1. Flat Left Wrist. 2. Bent Right Wrist. 3. Both Wrists vertical (perpendicular) to the ground (horizontal plane). 4. Toe of the Clubface along the Target Line. 5. Both Arms straight at the end of the Follow-Through with Clubshaft pointing at the Line. 6. Club descends to Low Point: Ball struck first and turf afterward. 7. Feet and Knees as Anchors supporting the Hip Motion and keeping the Head Stationary. 8. Pivot Lag -- Hips leading Lagging Shoulders. 9. Right Shoulder 'well back' and 'well down' (On Plane). 10. Head Centered and Stationary. |

Any on putting
Excellent stuff, but then again what would you expect from Lynn et al? Anyway, I have my fingers crossed that the DVD contains something on putting as well and formatted so that the many LBG fans in Australia can view it without too many problems. Tick another one for advanced order. :salut:

The entire Disc #3 in the Series is on Putting! It is a fast-paced 'back and forth' -- almost two hours passes in minutes -- and it is chock-full of stuff that has never before been covered (at least not with this structural and geometric precision). In the Series, Disc #1 deals with the Basic Stroke, and Disc #2 concentrates on Drills. V.J. and I had a lot of fun with all three, but you should have seen us 'jeein' and hawin' with the Drills as we handed off to one another and beat the late afternoon sun. Then again . . . You will! :golf: |
Makin' It Happen . . . Finally!
Bagger's on his way to Spain right now -- the 'day' job of a Fortune 500 Senior VP :( -- or I'd ask him put up a clip or two from the Drills video now. Maybe Bambam -- the head 'techie' at a private firm -- can do something with all the stuff we've already loaded 'in house'. We'll see.
Meanwhile, we'll get through this very busy month (all 'round) and get this Series to you soon! I'm really proud of it, and so is V.J. Now that the project has percolated to its long rightful place in the Priority Checklist -- mea culpa: I've been the bottleneck -- we can hardly wait for the debut. These videos are for you, our own audience -- TGM afficienados and wannabees -- and not for the general public, i.e., The Golf Channel infomercial crowd. Hang in there, guys. I could make it available via the web tonight, but there is so much difference in the quality that we have agreed to go ahead with the DVD version. We want to do it 'right', and trust me, it will be worth the wait. :salut: |

Wow
Just viewed "Left wrist uncocking". So nice to SEE and HEAR this information. One more weapon in the war against misinterpretation. The books true meaning coming to life via mediums not readily available to Homer. Its is so great to see your swing so clearly too, Yoda. I can almost hear Tiger like violins when I look at it frame by frame. When I grow up to be 600 years old or so I want to be able to swing just like you. Assuming Luke doesn't turn me into a hitter that is. Is it possible to pre order the DVD's? |
Wow!
Having learned about the Final Missing Piece from this forum; having just finished reading it and now finding this thread, to go along with everything else here... Thank you.

BTW . . . We've been missin' ya! Where have you been? :salut: |
Thanks Yoda! Please let us know once they are ready. BTW, I visit everyday and nights here as usual. But frankly speaking, I think I am stupid and don’t know what to ask. I through I know a lot but after seeing my swing in video, I am very sad with my in-up, crossing the line at the top of backswing and over the top downswing.
I keep quite and reading the yellow book again… :crybaby: |
Take Heart
Stripped bear by the curse of plenty? Correct knowledge mocks us! Tried the blind struggle...think I'm gonna let Homer guide me from this point on:salut:
KOC...if and when you get bogged down 1. set them wedges 2. take it up, back and in on the turned shoulder plane 3. Bring er down out and forward on the turned shoulder plane 4. Add you a hinge action THE simplest description of an effective golf stroke EVER conceived! When I get dizzy from the complexity of 24 opponents I reduce it to the above. Okie...50 miles from Muskogee |
For future reference and easier access, I moved the two drills videos into the Yoad & VJ Talk Golf section of the gallery.
