Here is something I found out after buying my digital camera.

I just assumed that I could hook my analog VCR to my digital camera and through my computer to my video swing program.

Check to see that the camera you are buying has what is called a
Pass Through.

A lot of Sony cameras have it. My model Panasonic does not.

It's just for personal use, so I don't want anything too fancy. Just the basics with fast enough shutter speed.

Martee 01-30-2005 11:28 PM

A shutter speed of 4000 or better is ideal, however you may discover that since you are not in the business, a shutter speed of 2000 would be acceptable.

Cost wise, most of the low end cameras (under $300) the last I look were less than 2000 shutter speed. Cannon has a few models that hover at about $300 which has a shutter speed of 2000.

I was told by someone who works for V! that 1/2000 shutter speed is ok and nothing is gained by going to 1/4000.

I got a bunch of Brian's 'hands on' tech help last week at the biggest gig in Golf -- the 2005 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando. In addition to a free ride into the conference as his PGA Guest, his last bit of help -- free consultation from a guy with 21 consectutive PGA shows under his belt -- left me about $5,000 lighter. But, you guys are going to be the beneficiaries...

All I've got to do is to learn how all this stuff works!

Stay tuned!

Brian, If you would like to share any camera suggestions, that was my question. If you want to sell me a camera, just say so.

I saw a camera once that had a little flip out monitor on the camera. It also had the ability to have plane lines drawn on the screen.

I think it was a Sony of some kind. There are probably several that can do that now.

Im intrigued by the Casio Exilim fx-f1. Super crazy high speed movie function. Not sure how it would work for a teaching professional. I think Luke was considering it at one time.

Software:
I've used Computer Coach for years, but I heard they're no longer in business. We use JC Video at the Barclays, and it's very easy to use. And, lastly there is a very inexpensive but complete software package from Motion Pro: http://www.motionprosoftware.com/index.htm

Cameras:
From personal experience, the best that I've ever owned is the Panasonic PV-GS500. It was the last of the pre-HD models, and it was rated the best in it's class. The picture is superb, because of the 3CCD sensor. It's virtually a news camera, in the size of a small camcorder. It has easy to use aperture and the shutter speed goes to 1/8000.

http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content...der-Review.htm

B & H is selling it for $749.99, and it originally sold for $1000. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...D_Mini_DV.html

Feel free to PM me, and I'll give you any info that I have.

Video quality is much better on your local PC

golfguru 08-31-2008 09:20 PM

For a multipurpose Vid/SLR the Casio F1 is hard to beat. Down side is its an SLR camera shape and size.

Takes 60FPS with 6mpix clarity in stills, or 30fps over a 2 second burst which can be mint for sequences.

What is super cool is that the Frames Per Second are the actual # of frames recorded as opposed the the shutter speed rating (which can be changed on the F1 to get super clear shots in the sequence. It records in Standard, Full HD, Part HD and High Speed modes. Amazing bang for your buck.

Hook it into a PC and away you go.

Not sure how Full HD feeds into the V1 type systems (mac user here).

For those who do not need to keep tape for ever, a Hard Drive Video camera is quicker to get info into your PC too. A very good point was made about the Pass Though capabilities being a good idea to check for.

3CCDs allow you to use the vid recording modes in lower light as well.

Will the casio hook into laptop. The cord has Firewire on one end of cord and usb on other end . The laptop has triple e card .I have been using v 1

golfguru 09-01-2008 02:46 AM

Hi Denny,

Casio uses a high speed USB cable. Plus into any USB port.

Amen Corner 09-01-2008 03:22 AM

I also use the 3CCD Panasonic.

Since I have a small indoor facility, it is perfect for less good light.

I have it connected to a projector that shows the swing on the wall.

When necessery I use Swing View Pro.

The SVP has so many "extras" included and if you miss something on it, just contact support and they will try to add it in the next update. They do support Casios new camera.

I bought a SD memory card (a must) and find it easier to simply pop the card out of the camera into the PC. You can use the USB cord as well.
