I keep blocking it right
I keep hitting the ball right, sometimes just a little bit, other times it sails way right.
I used to but now rarely hit big hooks. Here are a few links to swing clips. Constructive criticism welcome. I play off 3 and would like to get to scratch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0LdqjYuTP8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R8mYqlNKsQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVTK0uAHi8M |
Simple and Straightforward.
Your Left Upper Arm is sticking to your body. After impact, your Clubhead outraces your Arms. Then you Bend your Left Wrist. Then you Chicken-wing your Left Arm. In that Order. All of this is caused by coming out of your Posture. Your Right Hip comes forward, your right knee comes forward, you don't clear your Right Hip. Unless? Are you trying to Hold the Left Arm against your chest? You are reading too many bad advice posts on other websites. Trying to keep the Left Upper Arm Connected to your Body will force you to come out of your Posture. Incompatible. Do you notice how the Clubface isn't Closing even though you do a GREAT Job at Low-point having your Left Wrist Fully Uncocked? The Clubface wants to Swivel. But the Arm is tied to your Body Rotation which is preventing your Left Arm from Swiveling past Low-Point. If you try to Roll your Left Wrist you're only going to become erratic. You can't time the Roll. The #3 Accumulator Roll (Swivel) is Automatic (unless you use a non-automatic Procedure).
Look at Moe Norman, not Ben Hogan. ![]() Hey GPSTYLES, you have a great Swing (except for the problems, but they're minor fixes at your ability). I give it 4 Yodas. ![]() |
4 Yodas, I'm very happy! :)
Thank you Daryl for that thorough analysis, dare I hope the green one himself posts his thoughts?:yoda: :notworthy Daryl, after I watched the clips back I spotted the chicken winging myself. I can categorically state that it is not my intention to hold the left arm against my chest. With regards to the fix: Do you mean the 'hula-hula' to make room? Should I work on achieving both arms straight? Thank you for taking the time to analyse. I welcome any other thoughts that correspond/disagree with Daryl's view. |
GPStyles,
I feel a little silly jumping in after Daryl's wonderful analysis... It looks to me as though you are trying to set up with your right forearm on plane, which I really like. Just before you take it back you look like you straighten the right elbow which gets the right forearm off plane, and opens your shoulders. I would ask you to keep the right arm a little softer, and the right elbow/forearm lower than the left at address. I believe that will square your shoulders and help you get back to that little draw. This of course along with Daryl's advise! Please keep us updated. You have a beautiful G.O.L.F. swing. :salut: Kevin |

The Second fix, if you need one, would be the Pitched Elbow. The Third fix, if you need one, would be Swiveling into a Primary Lever at Low-Point and then Allowing the Primary Lever to Roll. __________________________________________________ __________________________ Do you want Yodas response? Nice stuff Styles.
I was expecting to see a left wrist bow at impact but instead I found these impact alignments..........wow. Take a look at Lukes avatar to compare. Nice. The push in our circles is an open clubface thing not a clubpath thing. Hard to see where the clubface is here. Im wondering if you get your left hand grip set at Impact Fix properly? Perhaps its that easy. With nice alignments like these at impact, a square face at adjusted will turn into an open face at impact. PS My older brother, John , aka The Judge is currently galavanting his way across the Emerald Isle, one golf course at a time. He is normally in the woods on the right side too. If you see him say Hi for me. He is at Lahinch today, you might see him, dont think there are any trees at Lahinch. PSS If thats the green behind your trolly you do seem pointed a bit right too............Daryl just asked me to pass this along. http://www.lynnblakegolf.com/forum/a...d=125112821 4 |
Thank you everyone for the comments. I'm amazed I'm not shooting sub par every time considering how good everything looks!:crybaby:
Just back from the range and was striping it nicely using Lynn's preferred set up of two dowels to indicate base plane. I was approached during my session by an older guy (76) who wanted to tell me what a beautiful simple swing I had  In fact he told me he had a problem with hitting behind the ball. I demonstrated the aiming point principal and the idea of looking at a spot slightly in front of the ball and I started hitting it even better including a 175 yard polie!:hello2: I have a big final on Sunday morning and I just want to be hitting it good for that. I am giving the opponent two shots and I know if I play well it won't even be a contest. Is there any reason the foward aiming point would have helped or is that just a happy coincidence? Am I to take it that I need to work a little more on getting the RFOP and my right hip slightly turned back at address? Thanks again everyone who has taken the time to read and comment. I have had a personal lesson from Paul Smith aka Golfguru who is largely responsible for getting these alignments in place. His advice for the next step forward in my development is a personal lesson with Yoda. Alas things didn't work out while Lynn was in Scotland but I think it would be wise of me to save the pennies and take the family to the swamp! |
Good luck in your match. Id keep your mind on your motion or pressure points and forget all of this stuff till your done.
But in my last lesson with Lynn, the aiming point for me anyways moved around. More target ward or in front of the ball for a wedge say and behind the ball, rearward for a driver. Its all about the length of the lever that needs to switch ends. If I start leaving my drives to the right I adjust my aiming point and look at it instead of the ball, like one would do in a bunker. Et viola, thank you Lynn. Good luck. |
very good OB and thanks for the PMs.
Do you look further back for the longer clubs? Thats what I would expect but in this case it was a 3 iron and I was looking in front. I agree that 5 days before the match is no time to be making changes but I also think that it is only a small margin that is stopping me hit really good G.O.L.F. shots.:crybaby: |
Its trial and error and personal preference where aiming points are concerned. All or us make the club change ends in a different manner after all.
Knock em dead and let us know how it goes, Im in the clubs gross match play finals my self. Yikes. |
Don't wear Pink Golf shirts anymore unless you wear a skirt. I don't know about the Brits, but the USA has banned them, except in California. I don't think that the Australians wear Pink either.
|
:laughing9
nowt wrong with Pink! At least I wasn't wearing a white belt! |
Hey Styles, nice swing and great impact position - definitely a TGM swing there! I'm late into this discussion but the thing that jumped out at me was some loss of posture in the downswing - there is some momentum going towards the ball with your hips. I guess this jumped out at me because it's what I'm working on right now - keeping the tush line against the pane of glass. I think Daryl's explanation indirectly or directly says this too, although he mentioned the right hip - another way of thinking about it is the left hip getting back after transition. I'm not sure if this would cause a push block but to me it would make sense.

True, I am a pro, but you are the guys who understand the mechanics of the machine. I have always been more of a "coach" than a "technician." I have been lucky enough to have some success as a player and as a coach, but now that I need to make a living teaching, I better become proficient in both areas. I feel TGM is THE way. I believe in it. Yoda is THE MASTER of TGM IMHO. You guys are MASTERS of relating the things that he would teach us himself if time permitted. You guys are THE BEST, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate all your help. To finish my coaching / technician story. I found that from personal experience once you lose what once was a "natural" motion, you had better be a "technician" or you WILL NOT get it back. TGM has allowed me to get some of it back, now I have to get really carried away with something silly, exersize and stretching.:sad2: OH MY GOD, THE HUMANITY! :laughing9 Kevin |

Stop reading this stuff Styles! Put your mind on your pressure points and feel the Lag Pressure. Sustain the Lag Pressure via a smooth constant rate of acceleration.
Feel it, play with it. We'll ruin your swing another day ok? Are you playing Jerry 1967 on the weekend by chance? You've got a pro quality impact. You lagster you. Eye of the Tiger Rocky. Eye of the Tiger. Blan, blanblan blan, blanblan blan, blaaaaan.............. |
Thanks OB.

You need to increase your Wrist Throw. Keep that Right Palm up during Uncocking. Don't try to Roll into the Ball. Do a Hard Uncocking of the Left Wrist into the Primary Lever. Try it. Trust me. Why are we in the HITTERS Forum area?? |
OK I get it you're playing Daryl on the weekend, eh?
Dont read any of this Styles your good to go. Blan .....blanblan ....blan. |
Guys, just thought I'd let you know that I sadly lost my match.
I played pretty good. I hit the first 6 greens in regulation, was level par through 6 and yet only all square. I lost 3 holes on the trot 9 through 11. We halved the rest of the way and I lost 3&2. Just one of those days when all his putts dropped and mine somehow stayed out. Next year I'll go one better, especially if my talks with Yoda go well.:silenced: |
Well done Styles
Congratulations on a fine showing. Ob |
Congrats anyway Styles. You're a work in progress and next year you'll get them all. That's a lot of pressure going down after the turn.
Ya, it sounds like putting. 6 greens in reg should have produced something. |
Up and out....Baaad!
[*]Stay in your Posture so that the Right Elbow Clears the Hip during the Downstroke.
Daryl, How would you recommend going about staying in your posture? How does waist bend alter impact conditions? Why does coming out of your posture prevent tilting the axis and clearing the right hip. I know it does but I lack an effective book-based description. Sincerely, Okie |
If I may.
Okie when you say "Baaaad" I recognize that you know the subject is "goat humping". I didnt notice this in Styles swing by the way but I am something of an expert on the subject, although not of the caliber of Bucket say. So in this form of a swing snare, the hips thrust toward the ball in transition (as opposed to the good old fashioned head bob) BUT in a fascinating and totally subconscious effort to keep the Radius properly measured or stretched to the ball, the shoulder frame is lifted as a compensation. So basically what starts at one end of the machine works its way to the Left Shoulder, the Center of the Swing Radius, thereby ruining the Geometry of the Circle and disrupting the Clubhead's orbit. With the Left Shoulder on the move, you are no longer Tracing a Straight Plane line, low point is moving etc etc. You may time it well sometimes but not all the time. As for your third and forth questions. I'd say that we clear the right hip going back with a simple turn of the right hip and then clear the right hip (again) in transition with a Hip Slide and Delayed Turn. Two "clears", not one assuming Axis Tilt. Simply doing this precludes the "hump" most likely but if you are struggling or choose not to Tilt your Axis you can simply try to keep your rump back in transition. "Ass back golf", as I call it. This relates to the "keeping your spine angle" of popular golf speak. Dr D , would you concur? |
we still talking about me?:eyes:

During the Backstroke 80% of your weight shifts to the right foot. Go ahead and start the Downstroke with a Slide Left Hip Tilt and setting the Left Heel down to the ground but - don't take too much the weight off of the Right Foot. Right-Left-Right-Left weight shift is not the best idea for Swingers using a Wrist Throw. Left Toe, Right Heel, Left Heel, Right Toe is a more gradual shift and it will keep the Right Hip where it belongs. |

Go to the top of your swing . . . take the club down to where your left arm would be parallel to the ground in your downstroke . . . now stand up . . . look at what the shaft does . . . lays down right? Your hands are going to end up being too far away from you if you continue swing "out" from there you have to throw your wrist at the ball because of the adjusted radius . . . all of your vectors are RIGHT (imagine a side hill lie with ball below your feet). So you have to uncock your wrist early to get to the ball and arch it so you don't hit a giant push slice . . . you also have disrupted #3 and are totally dependent on #2 . . . any amount of roll and you stand a chance of getting the snapper too. Two way miss time. The other option is to swipe a cross it and hit a shrimper . . . Hips clearing and not going toward the plane line keep the hands and shaft on the intended plane. I know it's a hands controlled pivot but the can compensate for only so much. If your hips are going toward the plane line and not parallel to your delivery line then your right hip CAN'T clear . . . goathumpers hands get out away and up too. |
once again, we still talking about me?!!
|
You, me and a lot of decent golfers. I suspect that anyone who offers information on this subject "knows" the goat.
From a DTL view mark your posterior area and see if it moves towards the base line in transition. Then take a look at Tigers. He is employing "ass back golf", we are not. |

This is very insightful. Bucket you Sir, "knoweth" the goat like no other. |

Is this useful to me? Just a quick update as well. Been playing foursomes recently. Yesterday my partner and I won the Balmoral Members Cup competition. Its a handicap event and we played 4 matches on our way to winning, including giving 8 shots in the final which we won on the 18th green after shooting level par. Sunday past I was playing in a GUI (Golfing Union of Ireland) event. There were various Ireland team players there but myself and my partner had a useful finish of 6th place. We were just 4 shots off the eventual winners. It is the first time I have ever won a prize in a GUI event. I'm still hitting a few wayward shots but thanks to everyone on here for all the help they give clearing the fog and letting me see TGM! :salut: http://www.gui.ie/championship_resul...&type=0&id=121 The results for the scratch foursomes can be found here. |
Yes. That's what I'm talking about (Keeping the Right Heel down a little longer).
|
thanks Daryl

Styles,
Interesting video, although not sure this is going to help your issues.... You need some lower body mechanics work and learn how to root the ground better... Your block is from lower body mechanic issues, everything is spinning left and the club is following suit... |

So I only watched the first video, but the swing looks fine,, I know you might want a more difficult answer to your question but I only have a simple one... Watch the first video again and think of Anika, or Duval... You are right eye dom.. and your head is always looking forawrd. That would be where I would start if it is an occational block..Quicker you look at the target in that swing the more the face opens. BurleyGolf- |
