The Greatest Gift

Wow!!! For Hanukah my girlfriend just gave me a one full day, two half day lesson package with Yoda sometime in March. She kept teasing me that it was the greatest Hanukah present ever, and she was right! I'm really going to have to study the Yellow Book this winter!:golfcart:

PS, reacting to my LBG obsession, she kept calling Yoda "Wayne Blade" this month just to throw me off the scent:laughing9

Can't wait, Quitesure!

Kathryn tells me you're really engrossed in your TGM studies and loving it. We'll 'get'er done' -- you'll be ready for your golf in Hawaii! -- and have a ton of fun doing it.

See you guys next March!

Wow!!!! That's a high quality woman . . . . does her mama or granny look any good? Can they make biscuits? If not . . . do they got any domesticated animals that can't run fast?

You got you a keeper boy . . . that's high quality! In March . . . Your life changes . . . look forward to the report . . . welcome to the beginning.

I've hit about a million basic motion strokes already this winter in my basement and bedroom. Now I'll finally find out if I've been doing it right!:golf:

Gift Day 1

ok today was the first day of three with yoda. After four hours, I can safely say that the gains I made today could NEVER have come from reading a book, watching a DVD or taking a simple one hour lesson. Lynn walked me through the Macdonald Drills, which are really meaningless out of context, or at least they were for me. Now, I can see myself doing them in the shower, walking down the street, waiting in line at the bank, all the while genuinely feeling like I'm improving my game.

Without saying as much, Lynn knew at once I was a swinger and geared all my instruction along those lines. Great: hitting may be a very effective way to G.O.L.F. but it's not my way, so I don't need to focus on that information. Lynn helped me find a great drag/lag takeaway using my core and also identified a key stability problem I am having keeping my left foot planted. I have plenty to work on, but at least now I can focus my efforts on the thngs I really need to do, not the thngs I wonder about whether I need to do.

For Kathy, she spent an hour with Lynn and after adjusting her grip and a few Macdonald drills had her knocking 5 wood shots 175 yards straight down the range. Before today she hated all her woods and hybrids, refusing to use them. Great! No more easy pickings for me when we go out and play nine holes in our favorite mountain course in Maryland.

And the best part of today's lesson: we have 8 more hours with Yoda tomorrow!

Back Home

Kathy and I just walked in the door after the epic lesson with Lynn. We spent 8 hours on Sunday taking Humpty Dumpty apart and putting him back together again, and we're both very excited to hit the range and the course and put our two new swings to work.

I took copious notes about what we learned in that full day session, and I'd be happy to share, but I'm not sure they'll help anyone but us. Spending all that time with Lynn made me realize that so much of TGM is about context, just as Homer Kelly said, and I paraphrase: "Not everything in this book will be useful to you, but everything will be useful to somebody" or something like that. I have fixed in my head the image of Lynn imitating my lunging, jerky OTT startdown move, and understanding now why I do it and how I correct it.

And I suppose that this next part belongs in the Testimonials Section, but really, the 12 hours we spent with Lynn were unparalleled in my golf experience. I feel first of all as if I made a great friend, and that's a feeling to never be underestimated. Of course, the pure golf instruction was first rate, and I now feel that all of my golf goals are attainable. Never felt that before.

And as far as the Yellow Book goes, I feel as if I was working on a puzzle, or making my way through a tricky level on a video game, and Lynn gave me a critical piece, so now the rest of the puzzle/level can fall into place. That's how I now look at the Yellow Book: I can read through it with real understanding, not guessing about what this part means, how the other part fits into the whole, whether this or another section relates to me. I can, and intend to, read it with a real context. I feel as if my study of the Book WILL yield results, amplified by all of Lynn's great guidance.

Rain washed out our last 4 hour session. I was disappointed, but now I'm happy, knowing that I have an excuse to go back to Cuscowilla in great weather, play a beautiful course, and have 4 more great hours with the gracious and masterful Lynn Blake.
