Craig Stadler on Golf Channel

Last night 11 Apr 07, Craig Stadler gave a playing lesson on the
golf Channel. As a poster guy for hitters, I was surprised that
he said two keys to his swing were (1) pulling with the left side and
(2) leg drive. He said that most of his power comes from legs. Does
Stadler really do these things or just think that he does them?

I saw that part of the show last night, too and also thought it was interesting.

I just caught the tail end of when he was talking about a forward press at address; what was that part about?

Starting at impact fix rather than adjusted address maybe?

I'm pretty sure that's what it was about. I believe he started w/ mid-body hands, but was talking about other pros who start more at fix. I just caught bits and pieces and was curious what all he said in that segment.

Stads

The forward press thing was his tip to amateurs that are too "static" at start up. I also think it's his way of getting to impact fix.

Stadler can still move it out there and I see he leads the Champions Tour for driving distance at 292. I have to believe he uses 4 barrels, thus his comment about pulling and his pivot. Although I sensed more pivoting and pulling in the slow-mo sequences they showed of him than I expected to see, the thrusting of his right arm was very clear and heavy! :)

Perhaps Craig Stadler stops and starts his backswing with his feet (at the top to start down), and extends the radius of his arc from the sweet spot through his left shoulder to both legs and feet. Then he uses the ground for leverage and sends a but-load of lag through the line of compression.

Using flying wedges like this must help that power a little bit.
