Cover the ball

I've heard this term used, but am not exactly sure I understand what it means. A very good player told me that most good players set up left and try to cover the ball. Anyone Understand This????

I have used this term to give a student a visual of compressing the ball. If the player tries to "cover the ball" he would have to lean the shaft forward and drive the ball downward. Trapping the ball would also be similar.

I am reminded of a story I heard long ago about Bob Toski. A student of Toski's asked him how to cover the ball. Toski used either a towel or his hat, threw it on top of the ball and said, "thats how to cover the ball." :laughing9
