I'm not sure what is cooler, winning your club champ, or all the help you have given boneheads like me. I appreciate both very much! :salut: Kevin |
I'm proud to announce that I managed to win my clubs gross match play championship today. It was a bit of struggle though. Cold, 50 degrees, high winds and rain going sideways. The struggle however was entirely internal, as I lost my swing about half way through the match and saw a three hole lead disappear by 17.
At that point I asked Yoda (spiritually, wettly, coldly for help). His vision appeared before me and responded "stop practicing and start playing. Dont play how to, just play. Grip it firmly and use your pressure points". I've excluded the vulgarities, which I found to be very out of character for such a true gentleman. I dont think Ghost Yoda liked the weather maybe. Anyways, I managed a par putt to hold even. Eighteen saw me hit a decent three wood down the left side into a puddle that I took relief from. My competitor played his second to about 20 feet. I grabbed a 6 iron, gripped it and sustained it to about 12 feet. He missed and I made. One up. Thanks again Yoda. I truly couldnt have done it without all you have taught me over the last few years and your ghostly pep talk today. James O.B. Wow, Two Tournament wins this year. Skill Level. Congratulations. :notworthy
Amazing. A whole new level of play. I think that 50 degrees, wind and rain would really stress and test you. Congratulations to holding your own with that, too. :notworthy Next year you should give up recreational Golf to compete on weekends. :) |
Thanks Daryl
It was an interesting day. Under the conditions I had regressed to my former searching self and then I put my brain in my pressure points and got er done. Later , when I was heading for the parking lot I detoured past the range and hit a few to see what the heck was going on. Perfect. But weird , like where did it go when it left? Why did it go away? Only TGM can explain it, I think. Lag, brain in hands, rhythm etc. I bet Golfgnome who is one heck of a competitor would have some interesting insights on all of this. Where does it go and how do you get it back. |

Congratulations by the way! |
Why?
Barometeric pressure...or it could be the pollen count! First of all congratulations on your accomplishment. Recently I played a series of challenge matches with a world ranked amateur who just had a good run at the British Am. We played the toughest tracks in the area (excluding Southern Hills) We played more rounds in a week (7) than I had played the whole year to date. From the tips...high winds...extreme heat I shot 74...72...84:confused1 ...71...70..71...72. The 84 included some all star up and ins! I hit the ball like someone that had just played "dizzy-bat!" 84 is my highest score in...gosh...15 years! It could have easily been 90! It was and still is inexplicable. I was -2 for the other 6. My best ball striking round was the round following the 84. I purposely did not hit balls after the shocker. I told myself that I basically knew what I was doing and the chances of an encore were statistically unlikely! I feel that we can do more damage by trying to figure out what is really an exception. Enjoy your success and realize that no sort of perfection was needed to attain it! Well done OB! I am sure Yoda is thrilled!
