Two month anniversary
I've been here 2 months today. What have I learned?
Let me test this out - from the top of my head - in case I have got it wrong: I have my grip, stance and posture pretty much like I always have. I believe it's ok. The only thing is - if I am a hitter I can try to use impact fix as my address alignment. The head is behind the ball (it's stationary , but can swivel (but must not sway or bob) and it's ok to let your eyes look where the ball is going. Ball position takes care of business: The ball is where the ball is and the head is where the head is and there's no need to focus so much on keeping the head "down" or where the head is. (But avoid too much axis tilt). The important thing when making the swing and arriving at impact is that the (leading) hands are in front of the head and ball. And with a FLW - which maybe is the most important aspect of all. To achieve this, the right wrist has to be bent (not cocked) and must maintain this condition thru impact and to the followthru. Before all this - there needs to be a backswing which the fanning of the right forearm and the folding of the right elbow takes care of. (together with some weight shift and hip- and shoulder rotation). I'm probably into the total motion here, but I know the basic motion and acquired motions first are important steps on the way, but you all know that better than me, so I'm moving on : If I am a hitter, I don't need a huge backswing - I only need to get to an indian-how-postion of the right arm - with a quarter flying elbow - in line with my right shoulder . Then comes the complicated part for one who has come OTT the last 20 years (and probably still does): I need a little hip bump that lets the right shoulder and elbow drop down (towards the target line ) to begin with and not come so much out and across, before the muscular thrust of the right arm drives the hands in a straight line thru and beyond the ball to where both hands are straight, so the lowest point of the clubhead is down into the ground a couple of inches after where the ball was hit (not at but thru) so that the club and the whole left arm via the FLW is a straight line up to the left shoulder. I guess I need to mention that somewhere in this picture it is important to have sustained the lag all the way to impact/followthru. I also have to take extensor action and pressure points into account and try to make sure to let the sweet spot of the clubface (controlled by the much mentioned FLW) get the ball moving where - and how far - you want it to go. The 3 hinge motions are also part all of this. A hitter probably uses an angled hinge motion for the most part? But there are also horizontal and vertical hinge motions to take into account if needed. What more is it? ... The impact should be 3-D : out, down and forward , where the down part is more important than usually thought of. (Why?) (Uncocking of the level FLW?) Well, this is not very structured, I'm afraid, but it's according to where I am in these matters and I hope I am on the right track... |
Memo To Self
Good summary, Air. You've been doing your homework!
:salut: P.S. Don't forget your wet mop. :) |
What about "Basement Golf"? You learned about that too.
Here is a short list of additional things you may have also learned: "12 Piece Bucket" has Goats. (We don't judge people) We don't like too much "Threadjacking" (We're Focused) If you "ask a question", you get a dozen responses. (We like talking about Golf) "Innercityteacher".........(We don't Judge) |
Your doing a lot better than I am, I have trouble comprehending hinge action. I have read and read and still do not understand hinge action, I am about ready to give up.

But otherwise I think the clue is that the clubface does what the level left wrist does. If it is straight to the inclined plane it is just like a door closing in a hitter's action with the angled hinging motion. In a vertical hinging the left forearm takes the wrist in a more palm down rotation (to the right) and thereby making the clubface horizontal( lying flat like a table to put a glas on) for the higher, softer shots. In a horizontal hinge motion with a more palm up move there is a extra quarter role on both the left forearm/wrist and the clubface compared with the angled hinging so the clubface will point toe straight up (like a flag pole) at the end of the followthru, when more length/roll is needed in the shot at hand. So the angled hinging is neutral/square to the inclined plane. Horisontal adds a quarter roll to the left in the wrist, vertical hinging makes a similar quarter role to the right. If nobody protests I hope this is correct. If the corrections come - we'll both have to study it carefully. (Actually I'm missing something too - I tend to think the opposite of the terms regarding what is horizontal and vertical (when looking at the clubface, but I just have to learn what the motions are and forget that the terms are confusing, so I think I know what the hinging looks like and just get used to the labels used for these motions).(Maybe it helps to think where the sweetspot of the clubface is pointing? Is a nail hammered straight into the sweetspot pointing vertical or horizontal from the sweetspot in the followthru - that's probably correct? Angled is in between the two other hinging motions - about 45 degrees(?)) |

What's with the goats? Is there goat food in the bucket? 12 pieces - one for each goat? |
Don't forget the Google Translator!!

Daryl er en hyggelig mann som er ensom og fast i hans kjeller med datamaskinen hans. Han trenger venner som han kan dele sin betydelige innsikt golf. Jeg er glad for Air, at du har fast rundt her og vurdere læring. YBGF |

I'm (almost) back
03.11.10 I wrote (and two days later deleted):
I now have my 3 month anniversary. Not to make I big deal out of it and I'm not going to do this each month any more, but since I did this last month I'll do it again this last time because a lot has happened this month. I have come far this month - all the way to Cuscowilla and back again. I feel fortunate and a little proud of my self who has dared to take such a big step. But where do I go from here? It seems like an anticlimax. It's long time to wait till spring. I'm not very motivated to read TGM either. I had a dream and I've been on the mountain top and have seen the light and it's only downwards from here. Been there. Done that. Well, these are my lousy thoughts at the 3 month annversity - kind of depressing, I guess. A month ago I knew where I was going. Now what? I guess you could call this a combination of a winter/darktime / post Cuscowilla depression. Who knows? :::::: Now I think I am beginning to look forward again and not just back at the top of the mountain way up there. But there still is some work to do to be my old self again ... |
