Aiming to far RIGHT??
Off and on for the last 8 months I will get into the pulls. I know what is suppose to be happening, but I kept fighting my divots going left and I would hit slight pulls and pull draws. I seemed that I kept aiming more and more right, trying to stop the ball from going left.

I think that I kept putting myself in a position that forced me to bend the plane line so I could never get the ball to start out to the right.

Today, for some reason I just thought lets feel like we are aiming to far left and see what happens. After just a few swings I noticed something different, I actually could feel my weight shift slightly right and I could hit the inside of the ball. I can finally hit some push cuts, which is nice.

What do you guys think?

ND,

You're probably on to something. I think the natural tendency is for right-handers to aim too far right (it certainly is my tendency). Whether it's because they look over the left shoulder when checking alignment, a dominant eye issue, or because it just "feels stronger", I don't know. I recall someone asking Jeff Sluman once what his swing keys were and one of them was to always feel like he was aiming further left than he thought necessary.

It seems important when aligning the clubface first (before body) to not allow your head to tilt, in other words look at the ball and then then target by just swiveling your head, so that when you look at the target your eyes will be perpendicular to the ground.

So don't do what they show in the picture numbered 3, this seems to me to result in aligning to the right of the target.

The reason you can't sustain the lag is because you are so eager to make the club move fast (a reaction to the intent of "hitting it far"). So on a full shot you throw it away too early, which doesn't happen for your short chip. (bts)

Well for me, my divots kept going left and I could almost never get them going at the target, which was really getting under my skin. Now that I feel like my body in more open in a sense, my divots are right at the target and I can start a shot out right and have it draw.

It appears that my target is more out to the right at set-up, so now I can shift my weight toward the target to start my downswing, before I couldn't really feel this very well becuase I was aiming to far right with my body, as a result I was spinning and the plane line would bend, thus the divot going left and it was very hard for me to hit the inside part of the ball.

I am pretty sure I am on the right track, just gotta groove it now.

Played today and hit some really good shots, the best being a 3 iron from 231, to 20 feet for eagle. The shot shape was a nice high draw,

To check alignment set a club or dowel at a target ,then step to the other side of it and you'll find that you can line yourself up ,more often than not from the 'opposite side'.If you find this works for you then make sure you use an alignment aid on the range and reprogramme the computer.I have been there!. 3 iron from 231 with a high draw sounds pretty good to me though
