Oakmont says "no" to Phil !
One of our patients ,who happens to be a member at Oakmont, was in the office yesterday and said the club is allowing the members full access to playing the course right up until the practice rounds start. Tonight I got out for a quick 9 with a friend of mine who knows someone who works in the pro shop at Oakmont. Apparently "Bones", Phil Mickelson's caddy, called earlier this week and requested tee times for every single day of the week PRIOR to the practice round week. Well, guess what---NO tee times were available because they were all taken up by members that week. So they told him "sorry." Maybe he can just hang out on the first tee and see if a threesome shows up!

Interesting.
Can you imagine Mickelson hanging around outside the proshop with an anticipatory look on his face, arm out/hand out/thumb out hitchhiking for a ride around the course?

Yes
Finally someone steps up to these guys.
Mickelson shows up with his posse: Pelz, Smith (now Harmon) and Bones to all the big tournaments.
They chart every single bump, bulge turn and out of place piece of grass to give their man the edge.
I saw them do this at the PGA at Whistling Straits (glad he didn't win).
Major tournament golf has become the playground for the privileged. Very few pros can take off a week before the tourney, go to Oakmont, play a practice round everyday and chart the place to the nth degree.
All of those courses should be closed until the official start of practice days.

Based on the interviews at the Colonial, it seems that a good 1/3 of pros are hoping to make a visit before tournament.
My guess is that Phil gets to play there ahead, if nothing else some member will get him in, after all they already got Tiger in.
Can you imagine the log jam on M-W if some of these guys don't get to the course ahead of time.

Agree. Tiger got to play. If you have the game to take off a week or two, it is because you are at the top of the game. A fool would not take advantage of that.

Looks like something must have happened---rumor around town is that Phil is due in this week.
