How many balls do you hit on the range?
I normally hit 300 to 400 balls a day on the range. Takes about
4 to 6 hours. My schedule is to hit 150 balls before lunch and
finish off in the afternoon. In an interview with Nick Seitz, Golf
Digest March 1978, Hogan told Seitz that His daily routine
took eight hours a day. If you find something that's not working,
you've got to go out and work about three days harder on that
one think. That equates to 24 hours for one think. With all the
SWING THINKS in the yellow book, wonder how long that it would
take to master most of the basic fundamentals?

Anyway, would like to take a poll on how many hours the forum
members spend on the range.

More than is healthy to maintain a marriage, but bad shots are more frustrating than a nagging wife

I work for a living- three kids with their own intersts to feed, a wife, a carrer, I hit plastic balls on the side of the house in between catching baseballs with my son with a hour of chipping to educate my hands a few times a week BUT... my passion for TGM and playing golf is not less than someone lucky enough to practice so may hours everyday.

Wiffle Intent
I (me & yours truly) have found that hitting that many balls on the range can be conterproductive...or tantamount to invoking the law of diminishing returns! UNLESS most of the strokes are attempts at edumacating dem handz. That reveals true intent...most people (not dkerby!) are rapid fire seed beaters...been there...done that. Working on...nothing in particular. I would rather hit the wiffle kind with proper intent...than a thousand brand new ProV1x's. OK that is a stretch! I think Hogan and Singh did not/do not have to hit as many balls as they did/do. They simply like to pull the trigger and watch it fly!

Clampett
I can't remember where I read this but it seems like there was an article written about Clampett years ago. I think it was his college coach who was quoted as saying that Clampett would hit something like 20-30 balls in an hour during their range practice time. It sounded like he was trying to be very precise with his "machine setup" before he would hit even a practice ball.

I may have the exact numbers wrong, but it was an incredibly small number of "bhpm" (balls hit per minute) when compared to the average golfer and the average touring pro for that matter.

If y'all want to do a poll, please fly at it.

A few suggestions:

Try to make the questions as precise as possible so there isn't much ambiguity in responses.
Try to cover all the bases. In most cases, you can't cover every scenerio but 80/20 rule is good enough for most polls.
Try to keep the options around 5 to get the best statistical results. Not many people participate in polls so if you can get a grouping above 20 that would provide a good statistical baseline.
Sample - How often do you practice at the range?
At least once daily - sometimes more
At Least 3 times per week
Once per week
1 to 3 times per month
A few times a year
Never except to warm up before play

The problem with the poll above is that during the warm weather season, the answers will be more frequent. So the results may vary depending on when the poll was taken.
There is an option when you start a new thread to make it a polling thread. If you have any questions let Bambam or me know.
