Swinger or Hitter?
Hey Guys - new to the forum and enjoying it immensely. I picked up the Alignment Golf DVDs and have watched them a couple of times and spent quite a bit of time working on the Basic and Acquired Motions. The question I have is whether I am a swinger or a hitter. It seems like I am a mix because when I hit my irons well, especially my short irons, I feel the sensation of extending my right arm and driving down and thru my aiming point. With my (well struck) tee shots, I feel like I am swinging my hands low and left through the ball which usually results in a baby fade. Historically, my misses have been left. Thanks-

It's possible that you Swing your Long Clubs and Hit with short Clubs. I think that's more common than one would think.

However, but not to make too strong an issue, is that while Driving your Right Forearm through impact, if you Simultaneously Uncock your Right Wrist, then Technically, it could be considered a Swing. Worst case scenario, a "Swit"; half swing - half Hit. A Pure Hit would occur if your right hand, wrist and forearm were in a "cast" so that no independent motion of them occurs through Impact.

Welcome to the forum!

Spending a day with Yoda and 3 other students, I don't think swinging and hitting was ever discussed...

More importantly, work those imperatives and essentials. Study sections like Hula-Hula and wrist positions and flying wedges. Swinging and hitting are really fun to discuss, but there is a lot of meat to get through before it becomes important to your learning.

It seems to me Yoda has said he and Brian Gay spent over a year together before they realized he was truly a hitter...

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep expirimenting with using the "hit" and "swing" while working through the Basic, Acquired and Full Motions and let the results define which is best.
