So I've done some thinking. My first thought is over acceleration. If you have a long shot, the thought is to hit it hard, thus over acceleration (from the top). For hitting especially, the correct thought is slower start down with a gradual build up of acceleraton. With the over acceleration you end up coming over the plane line. My second thought (related): Have my long irons and driver just really been exposing any "faults" related to my hands and flying wedges? Do I need just to continue consistent and correct work on my hands and flying wedges (for me, 10-5-E plane line tracing with #3 pressure point, or visually covering the line with my club head)? Are my short irons really that perfect? What about my chips? Putting? If I'm not very, very good with the shorter clubs, certainly I'll be inconsistent with the longer clubs. So, with these thoughts, for the last couple of weeks, I started to play the regular mens' tees (as opposed to back tees). Other than the driver, I won't hit below a seven iron. I can definitely see the improvement, especially when I have "tested" myself by hitting a long iron. Additionally for "homework," I've been tracing 10-5-E with PP #3 with no club. Do this and watch that right hip clear. Finally for these problems, this passage has been a great help: "The Accumulator #3 motion must be accommodated in the Impact alignment or it will (with great loss of Power) produce a Quitting of the Hand motion and/or a Quitting of the Overtaking action in an effort to avoid Pulled shots. That wilted feeling of a "Blocked Out" Stroke is a tip-off of a faulty Approach Angle." (from 6-B-3-O) Really explains my pull/hook, slice cycle. To me the key to the passage is "faulty Approach Angle." That is what I need to work on. And as always, reviewing and getting Chapter 5 in the mind has helped.
