Hogans training exercise
Check out Hogans training exercise in 5 Fundamentals pgs 81, 82, 83.
I use the exercise often and try to do the exercise with Homer Kelley
fundamentals such as extensior action, flying wedges etc. Seems to
me that Hogan just had another name for Acquired Motion. After 1946
I think that Hogan just reduced the length of his swing to mostly
Acquired Motion (except for the full shoulder turn) and hit a lot of
his go-to shots with Acquired Motion. In my experience, I find that
I can hit the ball almost as far with Acquired Motion as with the
full swing. I have a lot of fun at the range with a 110 Yd shot that
I start off with a 9 Iron and hit 50 ball, the with an 8 (add about
5 to yds) and proceed through the 6 Iron and then the 7 wood.
I vary the lag but not necessarly the lenght of the backswing.
Most of the time, I can take it to the course and play with more
confidence.
