Sound
Interesting concept. I wonder if two head sets can be used so
that an instructor can hear the same sounds that the student is
hearing?

Not cheap. Does it measure club head speed or grip speed? Since I didn't see a output other than audio to the headset (probably bluetooth), why not put a wireless microphone on the ground next to the ball and have it drive a small amp and speaker?

Do you think VJ uses all the stuff he endorses at the same time?

Rumour is they will be introducing a model with a usb port to a computer so you can get numerical information on your clubhead speed over time and throughout the swing.

What it measures is angular velocity (omega ~radians / second ) it does not measure translational velocity (hand speed for instance ~ contrary to what windmill-slayer thinks). Angular velocity is proportional to acceleration in axial direction i.e the direction of the shaft (centripetal acceleration) a = v^2/r . Having 2 accelerometers and knowing their separation distance enables him to calculate a signal proportional to angular velocity (which gets digitized... then midi ized) and made audible. Its probably a great training device IMP.

sonic fatigue....
I get so tired hearing lies and misinformation from poseurs when it comes to the science of the golf swing...

Once again and just to make absolutely it clear... Dr. Grober's excellent device measures two signals from which he can produce audible output proportional to the angular velocity (aka release) of the golf club.

Anybody *(who will remain anonymous even though he takes time to attack me personally)* who tries to tell you ANYTHING can be deduced about hand speed (or anything else other than angular velocity for that matter) using the Sonic Golf system, to put it bluntly, has no clue.

Furthermore, "anybody" who starts an analysis with an assumption then proceeds to "prove" his initial assuption is either intent on deceiving the reader or guilty of committing logical fallacy... indeed there may not be a more clear example of muddy muddled thinking.

If it were possible to learn anything about a complex subject (i.e. the subtleties of the mechanics of a individual's unique golf swing) simply by plugging numbers into a black box math package, it would have been done a long time ago by people immenently more qualified than Mr. "anybody".

The science of metrology as it pertains to the golf swing should not to be taken lightly. While Dr Grober undoubtedly knows there is only so much information to be gleened, only so many answers to be had from a two channel measurement like the Sonic Golf system others obviously do not. To do the job right... to actually measure hand velocity, one needs a test set-up not unlike what the PGA funded Dr Nesbit ( http://www.jssm.org/vol4/n4/17/v4n4-17text.php ) to do. "Anyone" who tries to tell us otherwise is simply selling baloney sandwiches.
