Newbie and a basic question.......
Hello, I’M new to the site and to the golfing machine. The question I have may seem basic but it will help clear up a few things for me. Firstly, I’M a hitter and Yoda’s flying wedge video did wonders for me. The issue I have is more of a mental one. I will present an example. When I swing with a 5 iron I simply take the club back with my right forearm and for my downswing I just retrace that path on the downswing with the right forearm and presto! A solid shot is the result. I’M not thinking wrist cock with this swing. My question is when one has a 75 yard pitch the swing for such a shot would essentially be the same with a good deal more wrist cock given the shaft length is a good deal shorter hence the wrist cock occurs earlier in the swing as opposed to later in the swing as with the 5 iron. Am I right in this?

The next issue is I have recently received the book ‘The Golfing Machine.’ My question would be how to read it? I see that in the book it suggests a certain order to read this book and I’M wondering if this is the correct way on how to approach this work? If not what do you more knowledgeable types suggest on how to read this opus? Secondly, are there any sections that a hitter should pay particular attention to in this work? Thanks a bunch and I’M looking forward to the journey.

The short shot may have a little more wrist cock sooner than say a driver because of the shorter length but generally you shouldn't worry about cocking the left wrist, which by the way is the only wrist that cocks and not to a large degree. You will learn about the magic of the right forearm and the importance of extensor action, these two things ( along with the pivot) will take you to the top and will naturally cock the left wrist as the right arm bends to take the club to the top, even for a short shot, you can experiment with adding more sooner or using no wrist cock at all, part of tgm is the literally trillions of choices you have. I would suggest reading the index first as I find the mechanical analogies very important. Read the book as homers list suggests and find an authorized instructor in your area to help you sort through it.
