i know that the drill is supposed to simplify swing thoughts etc.... and for some the thought of explaining it in TGM terms would appear crazy.... but what is actually going on with the drill ? I have not got one of those grass whips but i have been in the long grass with a 3 iron and can remember some old drill suggesting that was a good idea....
The encouragement to cut on both sides of the blade seems to suggest a lagging clubhead takeaway ( but within sufficient extensor action to provide structure to the arms ) and a rhythm of weight transference not dissimilar to the arm swing promoted by MacDonald??
Alsothe resistance encountered by the grass encourages the foot loading action, extending your swing to the feet in order to cut the grass and swing through in preparation for your backswing?
These are just thoughts - welcome yours if you have tried it. Thanks.
I had the opportunity to spend a few hours, with Mr. Mehlhorn when I was playing college golf for Bryant College (now University) back in the early 80's. We played Flordia International University at Fontainebleau Golf Club, Mr. Mehlhorn's home club. At that time he was in his 80's, but still sharp as a tack. He was quite a character and loved to talk golf, especially to those that had an appreciation for golf history.
I hope you did receive the 2 videos. One explaining the concepts and the other with Mehlhorn outside Miami airport.
Bobby's associate lives here in Sweden. The first time I heard about it was actually a couple of days before hearing Lynn's presentation to PGA of Sweden.
As Lynn has mentioned in another thread about Mehlhorn, the drills explained in the book are very usefull . You easilly get the understanding for how the pivot and arms work together.
This July I got the grasswhip, and boy, it works!
Amazing when you read how many people Menlhorn did help, some names might surprise you.
Is that a sweepy motion as per someone might call?

If you cannot take the shoulder down the clubshaft plane, you must take along some other path and add compensations - now, instead of one motion to remember, you wind up with at least two!
I.[/b] Just drop Bobby a line at info@mehlhorngolf.com, tell him which products you want and that you're a friend of Lynn Blake Golf. That will do it.
If you are going to order, I would suggest you call the phone number rather than e-mail. You'll actually get to talk to Mr. Shave, what a great guy! It's really a treat.
Until today I was slicing everything, of course driver more than any other club. Bobby Shave sent me a grass whip, and told me just to swing it back and forth, and then pretend the golf club was the same implement. It was raining a little this morning, but I took it out anyway. After awhile, I drove to a local covered range and started hitting straight shots. The keys seem to be:
a very relaxed grip and swing. The feel in the back swing is very much like i imagine float loading. The clubface pretty much centers itself. Body action becomes integrated with the swing like never before. Can't recommend it enough. I'm going back for the DVD's and book. Bobby shave said to call him any time. I hope the LBG discount is still in effect.

I used a grass whip as a boy many years ago. I had never played golf at that time, so I didn't see any application of cutting weeds to anything else. I can see a possible transference to small swings with not much wrist cock, the transference to full power swings is not apparent to me.
