How many professional golfers set up with the right forearm on plane?
How many professional golfers have zero shift?
Do the golfers have a faulty setup or is it that they have their own variations? Granted these variations may require a compensating move during the stroke, but as long as it isn't mismatched it shouldn't result in being a fault!?.7
Can't you still have a non-zero shift stroke even with your right forearm on plane at address?
Thanks.
Yes you certain can. John Dunigan actually teaches this as I recall.
A Double Shift is what accomplishes this.
Just setting the Forearm in position alone is only one part of the equation. Shoulders, hips etc all go into the definition.
I think that is why Homer defined and has made a point of Impact Fix. If you start from that point and define your address then alignments come easier and accuracy is more attainable.
IMO the downside is that you can adopt a number of variations, all correct but some which are not as optimal for your body's attributes which in turn may not produce the maximum results. But this is a theory I am still thinking about....
Now how many touring professionals do you see conscously going to Impact Fix...then returning to adjusted address in their pre-shot routine?
And if they do...Do they look a little mechanical while playing?
Subconsiously though...I have seen Numerous players in their routine walk in from the side...with the "Flying Wedges" assembled in the air above the ball..

Just realized the only two things my game REALLY lacks is the bowtie and the socks
Great stuff Annikan,
I believe in the GM the Right Forearm is always positioned On Plane at Address for ALL procedures, including all of 10 - 7 and 10-6 apart from Hands Only.
The pictures represent the ideal, as close to zero tolerance, a goal to be achieved ( or not in my case!) regardless if any human being has ever and so on.
I can only speak for myself, but the zero shift of 10-6-B seems to be no problem for many here. With a four foot mop in front of the living room mirror it was so logical and easy . Old Persimmon refused to comply though. That sinking feeling during the round was not my mood but my Hands!.
Some strong tendency or other, a careless beginning?. Probably.
Fitting this Human Machine to the Golfing Machine aint been easy!. But you gotta love it.!
One thing i've noticed is that a lot of touring pros will start from an adjusted address but then will go towards a "sorta" impact fix by giving a foward press and THEN starting their backswing.
I know it isn't a "true" impact fix but it is an "almost there."

Homer Kelley felt that the purpose of Impact Fix is to master consciously the Alignments of Impact in all Three Zones (Body, Arms and Hands). Once that purpose is accomplished, the player no longer needs to go to Fix (except in the most demanding situations). He felt the same way about the Practice Swing.
In other words, once you know your alignments, you no longer need to rehearse...

The truly On Plane Right Forearm demands a Body at or near Impact Fix. That condition results in the Hip Slide (Weight Shift) that tilts the Shoulder Turn Axis (the spine) and thus lowers the Right Shoulder. This results in a greater Bend in the Right Elbow than when the Right Shoulder is higher in its non-Impact condition.
Hence, most great players -- especially Swingers in their Standard Adjusted Address -- have a Right Forearm slightly higher at Address than at Impact.
