Community Ed Classes
I hadn't taught these types of beginner classes for over 25 years. I remember teaching a lot of:

Back To The Target, Stomach To The Target
Weight On Back foot Then Weight on Front Foot
Low and Slow
Tempo - Swing Easy
Head Still
Straight Left Arm

I should have been ashamed, and I was. I almost never got beginning women to get the ball airborne. I was simply full of sh*t and guessing.

I certainly don't claim to be a world class teacher now, but I feel I am really progressing. I have been really nervous about taking another shot at teaching beginners, I wasn't sure if I could use my new ideas from Mr. Kelley and get through to them...

Wow, nothing to lose sleep over like I did. I am seeing a lot of smiling faces and folks having fun.

We started with putting... without using the terminology we love, I worked on flat left wrist, bent right wrist, and lag pressure, mostly through #3.

Next week was chipping, basic motion. Continuation of our putting lesson using the same principles. Trying to get everybody into a strong single action grip with the thumb aft of the shaft.

3rd week into the full swing. This is the one I was afraid of. Continued what we learned the previous week, but hit 1-L-6 HARD.

The Clubshaft always points at the Plane Line except when they are parallel to each other.

1-L-6 was MAGIC with my groups. I never had a clue of how to teach where the clubhead and shaft were supposed to travel before. I could play, but I sure couldn't teach. Using 1-L-6 and the concept of roof and gutter, I was able to get everybody to get the ball up in the air, at least a few times!

I'm THRILLED. I will no longer lose sleep before a class wondering if there is someone who will sue me for malpractice. They certainly should have 25 years ago!

Thanks HOMER and YODA!

Kevin

Hey Kev

That one fingered typing is getting pretty good!

Instead of playing with some buddies, I took my wife to the driving range on the weekend and had a similar experience. She isnt a total beginner but might as well be. Anyways she wanted help and I was sorta like "where the heck do I start". First thing was chipping , right arm only and thinking about keeping the right wrist bend frozen (she is a hitter, believe me!). Second thing was getting the Right Arm on Plane while doing that. She noticed more structure and liked it. Third was feeling Lag Pressure at the #3 pp........which she really, really liked. "Oh that makes it so simple" she said.

Here's my problem, now she wants to go back every weekend. So what do I do? Im thinking Ill try exaggerated X Factor next Saturday and see if that doesnt bridle her enthusiasm somewhat.

You got any suggestions on this front? My golf pals are really worried and calling me every night. Never should have told her about Lag Pressure.......what was I thinking.

HaHa,

Tell her she can't hit balls again until she can properly explain the D-Plane. That'll make her quit!

Now you've done it. There's no way you're getting out of this. You're HER new golfing buddy. Tell your friends goodbye.

I think that there's a website that caters to Husband-Wife Golf. They have outings, tournaments, fashion shows and group shopping experiences. You should look into it.

You should introduce her to all of us by letting her post some questions and become involved in the forum discussions.

You can do a little around the house while she's posting.

I think Yoda offers "Couples" Classes. Ya, I just looked it up. He offers "Couples" classes. It says that he teaches "alternate shot" so that your Twosome can keep up with the rest of the field. I can just imagine. She tee's off, then you nail a 264 yard three wood to within inches of the hole, then She Taps-in for a birdie. Then she tee's it up again. I don't know about what others think, but that sounds like lots of fun to me.

Just invite her out to a friendly 18 hole round with your two buddies: Bucket and Mike O. That should take care of everything. BTW, don't mention "the finger thing" in front of Bucket when there is mixed company.
